Minutes for April 12, 2007 POA BOD Meeting
We reviewed the Horse Expo: it was a big hit; the biggest glitch was missing half of the riders for the Parade of Breeds, due to flat tires on the trailer. Thanks to all those who volunteered and helped out so much! We can’t wait until next year.
Membership Directory Feedback: also a big success. We collected $1165 in ads and donations, the directory cost $259 to make so we ended up with a profit of $906. The proceeds will be split between the futurities and the year end awards. It was suggested that directories be put into the show packets for the Western Classic, and for the Utah families that have not received theirs yet, they should also be coming out. It was discussed whether it would be feasible to have some color pages and a color cover next year. The BOD was in favor of the idea, to be discussed further at upcoming meetings.
Youth Advisor: the BOD discussed appointing Trish Barney and Tara Bencosme to head up the Youth committee and act as liaison between the BOD and the Youth. Scott Woodward is contacting them.
Historian: Megan Dawson agreed to be club Historian, but that doesn’t let any one off the hook- if you have pictures that you want in the magazine, or to be shared with other club members, send them to Megan.
Utah Breeders Futurity: we would encourage anyone with a desire to show a baby in the UBF this year to get mare nominations in. The futurity will be held at the September 8th show. Contact Jo Jo Linstrom with any questions.
George Bishop Futurity: Mindi, Jo Jo, Chris and Nicole have been collaborating on ideas for publicity for the GBF. They have suggested sending postcards to club members in other states that would likely be coming for the Western Classic, as well as to the Presidents of the state clubs. It was also suggested that for the future, having high point pictures taken from each age group to include within publicity. It was also discussed whether a two year old loungeline class would be beneficial to add. The futurity is $20 per class with a late fee of $10 per class. We encourage anyone (both youth and adults) to help support this futurity. The payout will depend on the number of entries
1= 100%
2= 60% 40%
3= 50% 30% 20%
4 or more= 50% 25% 15% 10%
Also, as a reminder…if you have any consignments for the sale, the deadline is May 15th!
The Hairy Horse Show is just around the corner, April 28th. We encourage everyone to make the effort to attend. We need lots of help so that it will run smoothly and feel free to invite horsey friends to watch, eat and compete. Mike motioned, with Megan seconding, to donate the proceeds to the Munson/Barker family and so we are encouraging everyone to come. The board was all in favor. We have several people donating their time and talents. We will be having haircuts, a raffle (if you have any items to donate, contact Cheryl Lady) and concessions. If anyone would like to donate time for face painting, or any other talents you might have, get in contact with a member of the board. Mike will try to get in contact with the local country station KBULL to see if they can come out. Megan is putting up ads on KSL, if you have any great gaming pictures, email them to her at megandurrant@gmail.com. We plan on having a lot of people come out to this event. The judged classes will be first in the morning, Ross is checking on judges and he will be the announcer. Megan will pick up the PA system and Dorothy will be doing concessions, with Patsy’s help. If you would like to donate your time there, call Dorothy at 766-0501. The Roses are in charge of getting the dollar bills as well as the timing equipment and poles and flags. Nancy will the secretary and Scott will be there early to help sign up (8 am, the show starts at 9) as well as take care of the eggs and spoons. Mike is in charge of getting the carpet squares. This is going to be a great show for a great cause! Spread the word and we hope to see you there.
National Convention Ross gave us the report back from the NC. The most important news was that of the possibility of having pointed adult classes, in the way of an Amateur event. A group of directors have written up a proposal that would allow members to buy a card and show in perhaps four assigned adult classes. Denny Brown and Ross, as well as others have been working hard on this. You will receive a questionnaire in this month’s magazine. We encourage you all to fill it out so that the directors can get input into what people want. This is a good opportunity to retain those youth that age out, as well as attract the “Baby Boomer” set that has disposable income. It would be up to the states to hold classes in their shows, but adults would possibly be eligible for a ROM and a national highpoint in their division. Ross says that the West in more in favor than the Midwest, so we need to make sure that we hear the viewpoints from you members. If you would like to hear more about this idea, please call Ross Bradford at 801-667-3334
Thanks!
Clinics? There is a woman in Eagle Mountain that would be willing to do a clinic for us May 19th, we didn’t have much time to discuss it at the meeting but contact Megan Dawson 801-376-7703 if you are interested and would like more info.
The next meeting will be May 17th place and time TBA
We will discuss the work day on jumps, new class schedule for BP’s among other things. Please contact the BOD if you have anything that needs to be discussed.
