Minutes from board of directors meeting January 11, 2007

Craig Ercanbrack – there are still some members who have outstanding show bills

The elections meeting will be on Saturday at 2:00 in Lindon

The open positions will be 2 two-year directors, President, Vice-president, Secretary, treasurer

The club could use a laptop and printer to run the show program, finance receipts from the show and membership lists.

Scott Woodward will get a list of the All Breed Open Shows

Scott Woodward is putting up a web page – he is looking for someone to help set it up.

Suggestion for the Western Classic and the Utah Sale: have admission tickets made up and offer them to the members to distribute to friends and leave at feed and tack stores. There is no charge for watching either event, but it would be a good reminder.

Questions about the Utah Select Sire Futurity and the George Bishop Futurity. This will be brought up at the general meeting.

Suggestions about the 19 & over having a year end award

Clinics - what do the members want?

Bring these up at the general meeting

Saturday, Jan 13th, 2007 general meeting minutes

The club is in need of a laptop computer to make the show secretary’s job easier.

A show secretary is also needed. $150/show. Must be at every show.

Craig Ercanbrack gave a financial report. The club made a very small amount on the Rocky Mountain Regional. In previous years, we’ve had sponsorships for the class awards. We were unable to do much for the sponsorships since the Regional was held in Hurricane in 2006. The club has typically made between $1000- $2000. There was a show in Spanish Fork that lost money. Reasons were: very very small turnout, high cost of renting the arena and judge.

Other shows that lost were attributed to judges cost. We are required to use approved judges.

The show with the family rate has lost money each year.

The cost of the year end awards had to come from funds generated in previous years. The bank account has about $3500 in it.

Scott Woodward has started a Utah POA webpage: Utahpoa.org

It is in the beginning stages and he would like to find someone to help put it together.

We would like to be able to sign up for shows on-line, have pictures,

Any other suggestions; please talk to Scott Woodward

Send pictures to Scott

Would anyone be interested in helping to make ‘free’ tickets for the POA sale? We need a large size like a coupon to pass out to interested people and have at tack and feed stores. There is no charge for watching, but this could help remind people to attend.

Jo-Jo has asked for input on clinics. Suggestions were made for English, equitation, fitting and trail

Utah Select Sire

The participation has dwindled. Do we want to continue? In 2006 24 mares were nominated with 3 foals shown.

Ideas – just nominate stallions, just nominate mares, don’t nominate either and just nominate the foals.

Motion: Keep select sire as is for 1 more year, entertain ideas for 2008. motion carried

George Bishop Futurity -

The participation has dwindled and there was limited showing in 2006, although that was a brand new set of classes and it was held in hurricane. The first year of a new idea often has slow interest.

Ideas – nominating & showing all year long and have a high point.

The POAC has agreed to allow the George Bishop with the promo show.

Ideas – 19 & over should be separate from the George Bishop futurity.

George Bishop futurity does not have a rider age restriction.

19 & over ideas. Have Trail, Western, English. Discussion on opening up to reining, halter, speed events. . 1 horse/1 rider.

New board of directors will have to finalize this.

Shauna Hatch suggested the board read the articles by Juli Thorson on the internet.

By-Laws changes:

Suggestions that the VP be the president elect and become President the year following.

President should have a 2 year term.

This could offer more continuity on the Board of Directors.

Two years as President and 2 years and president elect plus 2 years as past president might be more than some could commit for.

Motion: JoJo Lindstrom – Vice president will become President the following year. Second: Trish Barney

Motion was voted by the membership. Motion Passed. It will start in 2008. This will be the last year a president is voted in.

Changes in the by-laws will be made by the secretary and submitted to the national office.
